Retired UAW Worker and Lifelong Lawson Resident Rick Mellon Running as Candidate for Missouri State Representative
Rick Mellon announces his candidacy for Missouri State Representative in the 39th District.
Lawson, Mo. – Rick Mellon, a lifelong resident of Ray County, Missouri, has announced he is running for Missouri State Representative in House District 39. Rick is running for State Representative because he believes our state legislature have been acting at the will of corporations and big money interests.
” I disagree with the influence of big money interests on the state
legislature,” said Rick. “I will work to bring back the real meaning
of our state motto ‘Let the welfare of the people be the supreme law’.”
Rick also believes in protecting public education, working families and advancing ethics and campaign reform.
“The Missouri Legislature has been taking away support from public
education and teachers. We need advocates in Jefferson City to protect
schools which are the foundation of rural Missouri communities,” added
Rick. “I also believe in a worker’s right to earn a fair living wage to take
care of a family. Finally, I will fight for ethics reform so our elected officials
think first of the voters who they are working for.”
Rick graduated from Lawson High School in 1973. After serving four years in the United States Air Force, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. Rick worked for 13 years in the retail grocery business and spent half of those years in management. He began his career with Ford Motor Company as a UAW member in 1994 and recently retired. While working at Ford, he and his family also raised cattle on their farm. Rick has been married to his wife Cindy for 36 years, who retired from Lawson R-XIV School District after 31 years of teaching. They have a daughter Kelli, who passed away in 2008.
The 39th District for the House of Representatives includes most of Ray and Chariton and all of Carroll counties.
